Welcome to Andrew's Election Night Anti-Watch Party! The goal of the party is to not find out who the winner is, for as long as possible.
Short answer: it's fun.
Long answer: lots of institutions benefit from breathless, continuous news cycles, especially when it comes to politics. You probably haven't gone a day in the last few weeks without at least hearing one of the candidates' names. In some sense, it's an act of rebellion to hang out with friends instead of watching the NYT needle or refreshing vote totals from Lancaster County. And besides, I'm sure you'll find out as soon as you come home anyways. Engage in a bit of countersignaling!
Yes, bring warm clothes. (In fact, bring warmer clothes than you expect, since you won't be moving much, and radiating heat to the night sky). We'll also have a large fire, and, if worst comes to worst, a warm car.
Yes; feel free to contribute to the food supply!
Hang out, talk, enjoy each others' company; the campsite has an electrical hookup so I'll bring my piano, a few guitars, and a melodica. There's also a lake, for those who enjoy cold swimming at night (I'll go!) Perhaps some nice stars.
No.
Worse: drowned.
Don't accidentally turn your phone on.
Feel free to leave whenever you want; I have a discussion session to teach at 11am, so I definitely have to leave by 10am. But realistically, probably by midnight.
Yes, but I will probably be leaving 30-45 minutes early to pick up food and firewood.
Not much, but feel free to venmo me $5 to help offset costs if you feel like it.
I'll tell you at Devil's Lake!
.....yeah
